Hello, my dear friends,
We are now winding down the school year at the local outreach. We have seen so many great changes in the children's progress we are looking forward already to the next semester. We thank each one of you for your wonderful support of these precious children. We just wish each one of you could see the changes we see daily. From a child that at first was unable to stay seated to learn to that same child now actually reading or doing math. We are so excited about the work the Lord is doing in this small school & church. This work is successful because not only because of the love of the parents for there children but also because of the love of the teachers and supporters like yourselves.
Now let me catch you up on some of the activities that occurred in June. The first thing that happened was that Pastor Ric had a church team come to help at the school and in the surrounding community. Pastor Ric and his team helped one of our precious mothers & helpers Lucy build a beauty shop in her home. Lucy has three beautiful daughters in my advanced class and spends many hours of the day preparing food for the hot lunches at the local outreach in her home. Her children are now writing sentences & stories in English and also conversing together in English. One of our incentives has been to allow the children on Friday to pick a gift from the many items you have sent or brought to us. The incentive program has now been expanded to include "Cool Cash". "Cool Cash" is a play money $10 bill with a picture of me on the front. These bills were made by our dear friend & volunteer teacher Joel Killiner who is a professional graphic artist. I could of thought of a better picture like Pancho Villa etc. I never though I would make it on the face of money but maybe a wanted poster instead. Hehe. The children earn "Cool Cash" which rewarded for speaking English instead of Spanish, helping their classmates with their homework and using new words or sentences. Then Friday they are allowed to purchase items you have donated such as combs, jewelry, school supplies etc. If they speak Spanish in class they pay me for not using their English. It is a program the kids really love.

On June 10th. Tracie Hencie & her group arrived. Their group came to the school and loved working with the children. They helped the children with reading, teaching etc. The volunteers that come throughout the year are gifts from the Lord. We are blessed by the many vacation hours that vacationers spend teaching & sharing with our beautiful children. Faye and I want to thank each one of you for your continued support of the Lord's work here. I am now finishing this newsletter from California where we have traveled on our furlough. We are now replenishing our supplies, rest & family visits as we start to prepare for next year. Next season we will be adding to our daily tasks by starting to also teach at the Casa Hogar Orphanage. This orphanage takes care of 57 children daily. Our job will be to not only provide teaching support but also some ministry support. The orphanage has a very small staff and depends on the irregular arrival of volunteers from the American/Canadian expatriates. We encourage all of you to contact us when traveling to Puerto Vallarta & join us in giving what these children need most "Love & Hugs". It is so sad to see the little children just laying on the floor without normal human contact. They need the personal human touch to develop and grow. Won't you come join us? I know your life with be changed and I know that the children's lives will forever be changed because of your love and touch. |
