Well my friends & family, the school year is starting to wind down. Of course we had our normal run of visitors to help us teach our little friends from around the dump.
Becky Bushy and her family arrived mid month and blessed our children with gifts and teaching & school materials. They also went home with many memories of teaching the children English and just providing the love and attention these children need. We tend to forget how important a friendly grandmotherly touch or hug means because we are so blessed. The needs of these children run deeply through the community. One has to remember that most of these children have very few experiences with adult men as society here is very matriarical. That means that all our volunteer men teachers get lots of attention which just melts their hearts.
Towards the end of the month two sweet sisters Barbara & Carol Chase arrived with more school supplies & big smiles & love for the children. It is so much fun to stand back and see folks just blossom when the children greet them with big bright smiles & big brown smiling eyes.
The ability of our volunteers to relieve the teaching load from Patt & Ray, Joel & Leslie and Faye and I over the school year is so valuable. Volunteering your precious vacation time to these little children and the Lords work is just so valuable. Ray & Patt left in mid April but not before the children captured their hearts. Ray and Patt became so excited during their time here in Septmeber 2007 they decided to come back and teach for 4 months in 2008. They were hooked and started the process of looking to purchase a home. After a few months a home was purchased and they were fully committed to teaching the kids and doing the Lord's work. Well, as reported last year, Faye & I had been praying for more help and God is good all the time as witnessed by Ray & Patt's arrival. Of course Faye & I thanked the Lord and prayed for some more help and guess what? Joel & Leslie were in Washington were advised by our friend Vera we needed help. So they arrived and joined with us and Ray & Patt. I was able to split my advanced students and we could then give them a more quality English education. The Lord's timing was just perfect as always. In April Patt & Ray trained Joel & Leslie for the take over upon their departure.

Joel plays the guitar, Leslie is a registered nurse. With so many unhealthy conditions & situations in and around the dump i.e. worms, lice and amoebic dissentary, filth and lack of sanitary facilities, Leslie is a God sent gift. And of course Joel's ability to play the guitar and both of them to lead praise music was another unexpected gift. Thank you Vera for recommending Joel & Leslie to the Lord's ministry here.
A wonderful update on Angelica. As you recall Angelica was abandoned on her grandmothers doorstep at age 14. Her grandmother Maria is such an saint. Maria already takes care of 9 other grandchildren that her children cannot take care of. So what's one more? Remember Maria couldn't afford to send Angelica to school so Faye and I stepped in and payed for Angelica's school uniform and books early last year? Well being a typical teenager abandoned by her mother the drive for education was limited. So last year Angelica dropped out of school much to our dismay. We have occasionally checked in with the family and bringing food staples. We found that Angelica was now only interested in having a boyfriend like other teenage girls. Which means here in Mexico that shortly she would be pregnant and education would be forever lost. The Lord again heard our prayers for this precious child and we can now report Angelica is now back in school. Faye & I have advised Maria that we would continue to support Angelica's education and the families needs. I want to invite all of you to visit us and join us in helping the poorest of the poor.
